If you want a bright look, room with small windows will not cut it. If you want a soft look, room with yellow color will not get you there. The location choice is just as important as choosing photographers. We put up a guide which helps you pick the best place for getting ready. Then, it shows you how to prepare the place. By following this guide, you can be confident that your getting ready photos will look amazing. We also give advice on how to get a soft and at-home kind of look.
(imagine this room is cut in half, with a king bed, how much space will they have for getting ready?)
(sometime we get amazing photo opportunities with locations like this)
(this is her house but which hotel can give this type of look: unique and personal?)
There are two important factors for amazing wedding photos. The first one is your photographers, obviously. The second one is YOU! Even if you have no photography skill at all, it is still YOU!
Don't believe you have that much power, do you?
You should because you can actually do things that allow your photographers to reach their full potential. These things require little to no effort. But you must start these ASAP, ideally today! We will list 5 things that have major impact on your wedding photography.
(We got so much fun trying this idea from the movie: La La Land)
Now can you see how much power you hold? Those things cannot be done from your photographers' end. They must be done by you, and they require little effort (the photo list may take you awhile, but it is a fun task though). They can change the whole game, the way you enjoy your photographs many years down the road.
If you have any question, give us your comment below. We will get them answered for you.
Duy is probably one of the most funny grooms we've ever met. His reactions were so unpredictable and entertaining. Amanda, on the other hand, looks chill. However, she sometimes sides with Duy just like a perfect comedian duo. That is what we love most about them. They never look stressed or under pressure. In addition, not only do they have great personality, they also have great vision for their outdoor wedding. The soft and romantic blush theme goes well with the rustic look of the location.

That is one of the questions we are asked the most. For most of you, this is the first time you do an engagement photoshoot, and you don't know what to bring. Good preparation for engagement session will make you feel comfortable and look amazing on photos. Although every wedding photographer has different suggestion and advice, you can use this article as basic guide to prepare for your engagement session. It works well for our clients.
First session of 2017. We feel like this will be another wonderful year for us. Catherine and Marvin contacted us when we were still in Viet Nam, photographing two destination weddings. We set things up with them quickly. We were so excited that we even responded their email when we were at the airport, waiting to take off. We wanted to make sure that they have good preparation for their session.
Although it was still chilly in the beginning of March, we're glad that they take our advice to do early in the morning (8:30am). We knew it would be the best time to get the airy look. And we were right. Even with the direct light, it was still surprisingly soft. If you are into this look, morning is the best time to go.

You are considering whether an engagement session is worth your time and what you pay for. It’s nice if it is already included in the package. But if it is not, you need some reasons to justify the investment. By reading this article, I will give you more in depth of what an engagement session can give you:
Our advice:
We know an engagement session is an investment that can significantly affect your budget. Personally for us, the main reason we did our engagement session is that we wanted to make our wedding day as easy and comfortable as possible. That is our most important day. We want to be well-prepared, have fun, and enjoy our day.

What more can we possibly ask for when we were chosen by another photographer for his wedding day? We first met David at his friend's wedding, Gokul, whose wedding we also captured. Shortly after, David reached out to us and decided to have us as his wedding photographer.
Shooting for another photographer's wedding is a new experience to us. Some might say that it is harder because the pressure and expectation are far greater. For us, the pressure is somewhat more than other couples' weddings. However, we had stronger support from David and Jennifer since they are in photography business and they already know what need to be done. They are so organized, putting things together perfectly, making our job much easier, allowing us to solely focus on photography.
Not to mention that David got crazy drifting skill with his Porsche. And probably Jennifer already learned how to do that, I think.

You heard about First Look from your friends, from your photographers, or read it online. For anyone who comes across this article and has no idea what First Look is, it is the time when the groom first sees the bride before the ceremony. How is it done? Usually, the groom waits somewhere and the bride approaches him from behind, taps on his shoulder (like the photo below), the groom turns back and sees the bride for the first time. We hope it makes sense to you.
(The photo below is another form of First Look when they opened the door and saw each other)
Now, you are wondering whether or not you should do it. Instead of talking you into a particular direction, we want to give you an overall understanding of First Look, pros and cons. We will tell you our real experiences, as well as our advice so that you can make a good decision.

Our advice:
During our trip to Viet Nam, we were so fortunate to work on some other projects besides weddings. One of them was this bridal boudoir, and this couldn't have been any better.
Our friend introduced Ngoc Truong to us, a lovely and charming lady. She was shy and nervous on our first day meeting. However, she quickly became confident and daring, showing how gorgeous, and sexy. The shoot was so enjoyable, full of laugh and joke. We all had a great time working together. That's what we want you to get from a boudoir shoot, not only amazing photos but also a great experience, a chance to express yourself.
Also, many thanks to our makeup artist, Dang Quoc Tuan, for his talent. He is our top pick if I want to go for soft, romantic, and natural look. If you are in Viet Nam and looking for that type of look, get him now. Also, big thanks to our friend, Paris Dinh, for lending us some of her finest and most delicate veils. She has a really nice wedding dress collection.
Makeup/Hair: Dang Quoc Tuan
Accessories: Nga Dinh Bridal
We wanted to end the shoot with something different, something bold and strong that could describe Ngoc's personality. I left it for Tuan's talent to decide. He was so quick and changed the whole look in just a few minutes. It was amazing.

You see that most of wedding photography packages have 2nd photographer as a default. Is it to increase the price? The fact is that it is not (or not always). A photography business uses two (over even three) photographers because of the invaluable benefits of a 2nd photographer. We hope to give you a basic understanding of the differences that a 2nd photographer can make. We also give you some notes and advice regarding this matter.
(It would be too risky to take this wide shot if I didn't had my 2nd photographer cover me)
Note: Having a 2nd photographer doesn’t automatically double the amount of photos you receive. The increase is small. The photographers still have to select the photos carefully, make sure they compliment each other (instead of duplicated).
Our advice:
To be the photographer for both engagement and wedding is one of the best things we have with our couples. It is amazing because we can personally see their amazing transformation, the same persons at two different stages of their life. We still remember Jinjin & Salvador's engagement back in March, when we first met them and know how kind and down to earth they are. Back then, there were only four of us, walking around SF, laughing and joking together. Now, when the time has come, seeing them surrounded by their beloved friends and families, in their beautiful wedding outfits makes us realize how lucky we were to be part of their life. We were so proud to be the ones who help them take a huge amount of pressure off their shoulder, photography. We already knew what they like, what work for them. That made the day gone by easier and they even enjoyed it more, just like we did.
Today is even more exciting for us when we have a chance to sit down, putting our thought and memories into this blog and share it with the rest of our world.

Can't say enough how this wedding was about dancing and the champ was our groom, Adrian. Although he is not a professional dancer, he knows how to get his guests involved with his moves and I never see him stop doing so.
The first time when I met them in person was last Fall. They were a young passionate couple (and they are still now), came to me with all the excitement that they have for their wedding. I loved to hear their story and their vision for the day. Their love for each other was so special and I could clearly see it on their wedding day, when Adrian first saw Rosita in her beautiful wedding dress, walking down the aisle with her mom and brother. All the wait were over and his teary eyes showed how much emotional that moment was.
When I write about this wedding, it feels just like last week even though it is already two months. Everything is still fresh and clear in my mind. Everything they did and planned with me, seeing them transform from a newly engaged couples to a newlywed is a great experience and privilege for us. We can't wait any longer to share this beautiful wedding that we had over the summer.

A boudoir session can be a surprising gift for your husband to-be. With the right outfits and location, you can make it real simple. We think that boudoir is not always about fancy room or outfits, and you shouldn't take much time out of your busy life to plan for something like this. Indeed, with the right idea and good preparation, you can still have a great time and beautiful photos.
We decide to create an inspiration shoot out of this idea with the help from our talented makeup artist, Chau Nguyen from A-List Make Up, and our lovely model, Courtney Musser.

The heat of summer is always one of the issues that many couples have when planning their wedding. However, Nicole & Pablo's wedding was not the case. Being at their wedding, we didn't feel like summer. Indeed, it felt so relaxed and calm with the rustic look. Their choice of décor was a mixture of vintage and nature, especial the vintage 1948 Chevrolet.
Another special thing about this wedding was that they didn't have the traditional First Look. Pablo said he wanted to keep the tradition where the groom first sees the bride when she walks down the aisle, and so did Nicole. However, she asked us if we could somehow work around this because she wanted to have a strong interaction before the ceremony. Keeping that in mind, we incorporated their wish with what they had and came up with the idea of First Touch with the vintage car. When that moment happened, I understood why she asked us so. Her emotion was so strong that she couldn't hold her tears back. Not only at the First Touch, we could see their feeling for each other so strong that their expressions kept on switching back and forth between tears of joy and the laugh of great happiness.

When we first met Linda, talking with her about her wedding, we knew for sure it would be one of our most favorite weddings of this summer. From the details to the choice of venue, everything becomes a harmony of natural rustic look. Linda told me that she is working to become a planner. And with her proven vision for her own wedding, I believe she is a great person to put everything together to achieve such type of look. We love not only the style of their wedding but also their personality. They are so patient and fearless to try new things. They actually said they would like to try many different things on their wedding day. That is something we always expect from our future bride and groom. It makes their wedding unique.

When it comes to destination wedding, we have to be really selective as we will spend a significant amount of time for traveling and with our couple. But for Charlene and Randy, when we first met them, we know for sure their wedding will be a perfect match for us just like we are to theirs. We love who they are, how they like traveling and how they treat everyone. We have to say they plan their wedding perfectly, from the band to all the details. We immediately felt in love the moment we arrived. Despite the heat in Palm Springs, everyone had a great time with them and the dance floor was always full with people dancing next to the rocking band.

There were so many special elements about this wedding: the human, the nature, and the memory.
Our first meeting was a year (plus a few weeks) ago. After some initial emails, we set up a meeting where they instantly decided to have me as their photographer. Time flew by so quickly that on their wedding day, I felt like I just met them couple weeks ago. Also, within that time, Naomi was so kind to refer me to Brian's, her fiancé (whom now I can say her husband) sister and her friend. I felt such an honor to have their trust even before I photograph their wedding.
Fast forward to a week before the wedding, Naomi was so anxious about the weather forecast which indicated a likelihood of rain on her important day. I created a planned B for her of what they should prepare, what we should do in case of the rain, and we prayed for the best. On the wedding day, it rained so hard on our way to their houses that we were afraid even the plan B will not stand a chance. Fortunately, mother of nature had her way of doing thing. The rain stopped after we arrive at their places, leaving the most amazing sky we've ever seen. And it completely changed the photographs we captured, from natural to epic look, which we don't often get a chance.
Not only the nature was wonderful, the human element was so memorable. It was them and their friends, whose precious emotion and tears we witnessed. I really felt the love they have for each other, for their family and friends. This was one of the weddings where I don't feel the guests' present. I only felt one single united present - family. We had a great ending with their sparkler sendoff and we will see them again soon, on Brian's sister's wedding.

With a little chill left over from winter, it was a great day for this lovely couple's engagement. In fact, Jinjin and Salvador's engagement made my day better than ever. We started slow at Palace of Fine Art to warm them up and get them into the game. They are really confident together in front of the camera, which made it easy for us to capture the nice laugh and emotional expression.
It wasn't only a successful engagement session for us, it was a pleasure to know them not only as our client but also as our new friends. They are kind, sweet, and down to earth at the same time. We plan to have a dinner tomorrow, with Gokul and Nancy as well, who are their friend and referred them to us. This is not something that usually happens reminding us that life is full of surprise, we will never know where our new friends will be from. Always threat our clients as if they were our friends and most of the time, they will be.
I met Monique about only 5 months ago to plan for her wedding. She came with all the questions, knowing what she wanted and looked for from a photographer. Although things had been carefully planned ahead, unexpected things happened. Makeup ran late and bad traffic significantly changed the plan of the day. Aaron and Monique were so understanding and cooperative that fixed and made up for the changed schedule. We opted out a few items and focused on what important, tried give them everything they wanted within the limited amount of time. It was successful. We were back on track when the reception started. And all I can say is the night went on perfectly with many great shots we got.

Charlene and Randy are going to celebrate their wedding this summer in Palm Spring. The honor once again falls into our hands that we are their official wedding photographer. Yes, we are counting down everyday till their wedding, till we meet them again.
But our journey has already begun with their engagement and it was incredible. They said they had no issue with "being natural" when we first met, and now I know what they meant. They really mean it. They did their engagement shoot just like having a date, romantic, fun, and down-to-earth at the same time. And it was just their engagement. I cannot imagine how much fun their wedding will be with all of their friends.
Their lovely dog, Ioshi - taken from Super Mario Bros, had her own moment too. We wanted to take a photo when she looks at them while they were kissing. Sound easy! But reality was not. I asked Randy to call her just before they kissed so that she could look up. And she did. But the problem was as soon as they kissed, right at that moment, she looked away, like she was shy of seeing that. We had to redo it for nearly ten times and I had to be really lucky to get the shot we wanted.
And Charlene has a great sense or beauty. Just look and this flower piece and guess where she got it. She got it from Safeway. I didn't know they have such nice piece. It went perfectly with her cute white dress too. Simple enough to compliment while not taking away the attention for her.
If you have ever seen this couple dancing, you would have heart attacks, not once but many times. They might not be professional dancers, but there is no other dance can compare with their fantastic first dance.
Last month was our honor to capture this lovely couple's wedding. What words should I describe their wedding? Surprising, DIY, down-to-earth, unusual: from the ceremony "hi five" to the most breathtaking dance. A special thing from this newlywed is that they have an absolutely cute DIY stuffs, from table decorations to photobooth props. We played with the props and selfie with them.
There are many times that we see ourselves as our clients' close friends (I mean the friends that we know for years) instead of their photographer. And this is the case. This wedding is a whole new experience to us!

I've been so lucky to be part of many weddings that are full of emotions and happy tears. And just before the wedding season ends, I had another one.
I still remember how their emotion changed from portrait session, happy and full of laugh, to the ceremony, full of joyful tears. Looking at them while they gave their vows to each other, seeing them when they wiped away other person's tears, I knew how much they love each other and how long they were waiting for that moment to come true.
And did I mention the best man almost gave the couple heart attack when he said he didn't have the ring with him? Yes, he gave it to one of the guest to surprise the couple. Perfect act!
Couple days after their wedding, I received their lovely thank you card. They are so far one of the most adorable couples I've ever met, from the first time we contact, to the time we were side by side on their important day.
It is happening, the engagement of my favorite people, Kyrstannie and Jake.
I've known Kyrstannie for three years. We first met on a modeling assignment. I always admire her for her great personality. Couple months later, I met both of them on an engagement photo shoot. It was not their actual engagement yet. But I knew that I have to be their photographer when they get married.
Fast forward to now, it was so exciting to know he made the proposal. And of course she said "YES." Few days later, when I was about to texted her when she would like to do the engagement (the real one), she already texted me about that. And I know that what I am waiting for finally comes true.
Congratulation to you. It was our pleasure to be a part of this fun and lovely wedding. Susan & Joe found us through one of my newlyweds to-be. Thank you Gokul & Nancy for referring them to us even when we have yet started your wedding photos.
One of the rare moments we saw was the sudden change of emotion. As Susan was walking down the aisle with her dad, just look how excited she was. Within a split of second when she faced Joe, it changed into tear of happiness. Throughout the ceremony, the way Joe affectionately looked at her let everyone know that they are just perfectly belong to each other.

I was just lucky enough to get this lovely couple's inquiry when I was on my business trip. Turn out they knew me when I did their BFF's brother wedding, Kevin & Jessica. This is another elegant style wedding, my cup of tea, that surprised me at 2nd half of the reception with a lot of Hawaiian dances. It was more special when they were done all by their friends and relative. Such a cute gift for this newlywed.
Let's look at how beautiful their wedding is:

I have not seen a beautiful day with beautiful sky and nice temperature like this. It is the sign that autumn is so close. And can anything be better for an engagement shot on Panther Beach, Santa Cruz during this time?
First of all, let give a big congrats to my new couple, Jessica and Luis. Their wedding is just about a year from now.
I want to tell you more about how the shoot is but it is just words and words like: beautiful, gorgeous, awesome, marvelous, etc. You have to be there to feel the air of seasonal change. Or, you can know how it is like looking at these photos.

One of the most unusual wedding venues that we've ever seen is this. Despite the sloping path, when you get there, it is like a reward for the effort. It has a house which look like a castle inside, nooks and crannies, roomy and bright. It also has a beautiful forest scenery just next to it. Everything was marvelous.
I met Michelle and Si couple months ago, when they are still in south CA. We briefly discussed their wedding day and I knew that their wedding will be just wonderful. And indeed, it is not only wonderful but also emotional. Their wedding party is the best, especially the "man of honor" and the groom's dad. Everyone has a great time and can't help laughing listening to their speeches.

It is a great day to do a little hike with these lovely Madison and Conor. Madison is the talented makeup artist I worked with just couple days ago for a fashion shoot, and she asked me if I can take photo for them. Sure!
So, I meet Conor, the good looking man who will soon become a firefighter. They knew each other since high school and now, he has just given Madison "a promise," that is what they call. I hope the important date will come real soon because they are so adorable, and they are make each other perfect. At least Conor can play the chords on guitar while Madison can read the notes on piano!
We drive up to mount Diablo and joke for the whole time. It is not an easy drive, yet it is worth seeing the view from up there.
Then we get to downtown San Ramon, where we walk a long Madison's favorite boutiques. This is the first time I get to San Ramon downtown and it is definitely one of the most lovely town I've ever visited.
And she said this on her instagram: "Definition of our relationship. You can tell whose the serious one and whose the goofball :P"
It is a wonderful day with this lovely young couple in San Francisco. While there are so many wonderful attractions in this city, we decided to explore the Conservatory of Flowers to see some of the most exotic flowers in the area ...
... and head to Pier 39 for some awesome arcade games and many more fun ...
Such a honor to capture my friend's wedding. We were friend in high school and lost contact for couple years. Surprisingly, it is so true that people say the earth is small: I met her again in this San Jose, somehow. And it is even greater that she is getting married. I am so happy that she chose me to capture her special day. It is an intimate, romantic and fun wedding I've ever attended. So, let's see their lovely wedding

This is another Indian wedding of this year I shoot as 2nd photographer. It is always full of music, dance and surprises. As a photographer, I know what is happening next but never know how fantastic it will be. Yes, their surprise performances to each other are absolutely amazing. And here is some of the beautiful images of the day.
It's Christmas time and Michael is planning his next move when he is about to propose to his girlfriend, lovely Edlin, on the ice rink in Union Square, San Francisco. He loves to have his photos look like a journey, so I knew that I have to be behind and really close to them for most of the time.
... and they are getting ready to skate ...
... listening to their favorite songs ...
... Edlin still have no idea what is going on. For her, it is just a happy day hanging out with Michael. But for him, he must feel really nervous because in the next 5 minutes, he will do what he comes here for ...
... starting by giving her a paper ...
... it says "Will you marry me?" And when she looks at Michael, he is already on his knee ...
... asking her one more time "Will you marry me?" ...
... and she says "Yes!"
And now for the first time we meet one another ...
This will be the best Christmas for both of them, especially Edlin. It's a gift that she has been waiting for.
A friend of mine, Ainsley, wanted to explore San Francisco. I talked a little bit about her in the pumpkin patch. Together with Quinn, we drove to one of the most beautiful cities of NoCal and spent a day there, walking around Pier 39 and Ocean Beach. It was cold, windy, and the Christmas lights were on ...
Fernando, one of my colleagues, has been asking me to do a photoshoot for his family. After few months of planning, we finally got some free time when I take a Sunday off from wedding and his family are ready to go with their 49ers jersey.
Japanese Friendship Garden was our top choice since there are many different scenes, with duck and fish that can retain his son interest.
We have so much fun shooting around the garden and I particularly love their red and white jersey. Such an adorable family. We are planning for the Christmas theme too. Hope we can make it.
And here is some of the photos that I love:
We finally made it to the pumpkin patch. Ainsley is one of the international students, whom I met at San Jose State University. This was the first time she came to a pumpkin patch. There was not much left because we were just three days before Halloween. It was unfortunate that even the scary house did not open until 7 p.m.. So we just played with the pumpkin instead. And by the way, you can see Ainsley picked the best outfits for the photos with pumpkins.
Today I have another great chance to shoot as 2nd photographer. The couples and everyone from their bridal party are such amazing people. Their all-night-long dance was so traditional yet upbeat, making me want to dance with them as well. One of us actually learned some of their moves. And here are some photos from today shoot.
